Red Ochre Organic Farm started in the beautiful Barossa Valley township of Krondorf, about 10mins outside of Tanunda. The plot was part of a private residential Winery estate (Krondorf Creek Farm) being farmed in conjunction with the owners.
Taking on the concept of share farming land square on, we were very lucky to be able to use this purpose built area of around 1000m2 which had very fertile, friable soil and was fully fenced with easy access to water.
The land and water was used in exchange for vegetables grown, and the owners had unlimited access to what was growing here.
It is also where our award winning CSA began, and became a fantastic incubator for the Red Ochre Organic Farm Brand.
Planting started here in December 2017, with advanced seedlings of capsicum, chilli, zucchini, silverbeet, corn, cucumber and seeded beans, carrots, lettuce and mesclun mix.
Our final harvest was in April 2019, and the farm at Krondorf has a special place in our history and our hearts.
Check out the Krondorf Creek Farm website for all the amazing historical information surrounding this property and be sure to pay a visit to the historic tasting room on the estate to try and buy some of the beautiful boutique wines produced by James and Jess.
